How do I analyze a contract?

There are three ways to upload a contract:

  1. Camera — take one or multiple photos of your printed contract. Unclause stitches the pages together automatically.
  2. PDF — import any PDF from your Files app, iCloud, or any other source.
  3. Text — paste contract text directly into the app.

After uploading, select your role (tenant, contractor, employer, buyer, etc.) and tap Analyze. Your report will be ready in seconds.

What is a "role" and why does it matter?

Claude AI analyzes the contract strictly from your perspective. If you're a tenant, it flags clauses that are unfair to tenants. If you're a contractor, it focuses on payment terms, liability, and IP clauses that affect you.

Choosing the right role ensures the analysis is relevant and actionable for your situation.

What is Quick Check vs Full Analysis?

Quick Check — a fast scan that highlights the most critical risks. Good for a first pass on a short document.

Full Analysis — a thorough review of every clause with detailed explanations, suggested rewrites, and a complete risk score. Recommended before signing anything important.

Credits & Billing
How does the credit system work?

Each analysis consumes credits based on document length:

  • Up to 5 pages → 1 credit
  • 6–15 pages → 2 credits
  • 16–30 pages → 3 credits
  • Comparing two contracts → 1–2 credits (based on total pages)
  • Language version comparison → 1 credit

New users receive 2 free credits to try the app. Additional credits can be purchased in-app.

I was charged credits but the analysis failed. What happens?

If an analysis fails due to a technical error, your credits are automatically refunded. You should see them restored immediately. If that doesn't happen, please email us at karabetskiy.d@gmail.com with details of the issue.

Can I get a refund for purchased credits?

All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. To request a refund, please use Apple's standard refund process:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Find the Unclause purchase and select "Request a refund"

We cannot process refunds directly — Apple handles all billing.

Privacy & Security
Is my contract data stored on your servers?

No. Your documents are never stored on our servers. Contract text is sent securely to Anthropic's API for analysis and is not retained after the response is received.

Your reports and history are stored locally on your device and optionally synced to your personal iCloud account via CloudKit — only you have access.

Does Unclause use Face ID / Touch ID?

Yes. You can enable biometric lock in Settings. When active, the app locks automatically when you switch away from it, and requires Face ID or Touch ID to resume. This protects your contract history if someone else picks up your phone.

Features
How does the language version comparison work?

If Unclause detects that your contract is written in two or more languages (e.g. English and Spanish), a banner will appear in your report offering a language comparison. This feature checks whether the different language versions say the same thing — a common source of legal disputes in international contracts.

The result is saved to your report and can be accessed anytime via the 🌐 button in the toolbar.

How do I compare two contracts?

Go to History and tap Compare Two Contracts. Select two previously analyzed contracts from the dropdowns. Unclause will generate a side-by-side comparison highlighting key differences, risk changes, and recommendations.

Can I export my report?

Yes — tap the share icon in any report to export a PDF version. You can save it to Files, send it to your lawyer, or share it via any app on your device.

Troubleshooting
The analysis is taking too long. What should I do?

Analysis time depends on document length and network speed. Typical analysis takes 10–30 seconds. For large documents (30+ pages), it may take up to a minute.

If it seems stuck: close and reopen the app. Your credits are only consumed once an analysis completes successfully.

OCR isn't recognizing text from my photo correctly.

For best OCR results:

  • Ensure good lighting — avoid shadows across the page
  • Hold the camera steady and parallel to the document
  • Capture the full page including margins
  • Use the PDF option if you have a digital version of the contract
The app crashed or something isn't working right.

Try these steps first:

  1. Force-quit the app and relaunch it
  2. Check that your iOS version is 17.0 or later
  3. Make sure you have a stable internet connection
